Bones, Chi and Zero BalancingWritten by Roy Capellaro
4)261-1060Zero Balancing is a skilled bodywork system that utilizes the latent force potentials within the skeleton to promote deep healing and wellness. Bone is the core within, the most dense tissue. Its matrix transforms our touch into an energetic field while acting like a filling station for our energy reserves. Amplifying these fields brings greater energy and a dynamic fluidity to a body combined with a deep sense of well being. These fields ripple through our entire body system and we find ourselves safe, whole and home.
An essential part in the practice of Zero Balancing is the establishment of deep listening fields of human touch established at a structural/energetic interface. ZB utilizes these fields/fulcrums primarily through the skeletal and ligamentous tissue systems. The individual’s bodymind system gently responds to this touch/dialog, elevating the interaction above this infrastructure level.
In a Zero Balancing Training we learn principles of this system that establishes a progressive wave of electrical/energetic force through the body. We learn which structures are most energetically significant and responsive and why. We learn the rhythm of how and where to place our fulcrums with our hands. We learn how to observe the manifestation of energy through structure and the importance of how to foster that particle/wave’s movement through the individual. At the end of of the class you will be able to immediately implement a good basic Zero Balancing with your clients and patients.
What Is Holistic Therapy and How can It Benefit You?
Whether you're seeking treatment for physical or mental illness, approaching your treatment methods with a holistic mechanism is often the best way to achieve life-long wellness. Unlike traditional Western medicine, which frequently targets specific areas of the body to treat with pharmaceuticals, holistic therapy's focus is to address all aspects of an individual to lead an overall well-balanced and healthier lifestyle. In better terms, the idea behind holistic therapy is to help individuals undergoing treatment to achieve "wholeness" when it comes to their lifestyle.
How Does It Work?
Holistic healing addresses all areas of an individual's well-being, such as physical, emotional and mental, and recognizes that each of these attributes go hand-in-hand. For example, perhaps a knee injury has limited an avid skier's ability to hit the slopes every day during the winter. The skier would very likely undergo physical therapy, which is beneficial in many ways, such as eliminating pain, learning the proper exercises to do to strengthen the area throughout the injury, and getting on a proper fitness program that works with the body's constraints. If this skier were to take this one step further with a holistic approach, they could receive the "traditional" therapy methods in addition to other wellness-focused programs integrated into the physical therapy to address all aspects of the injury including compensations or exacerbations of old injuries that could perpetuate pain and dysfunction or lead to future injury. The idea behind holistic therapy is that when a part of the body is injured, the rest of the body is affected as well. Incorporating such programs into treatment addresses the other affected areas of the body, allowing the individual to heal as a whole.
Why Is It Important?
Holistic therapy helps users undergoing treatment instill lifelong habits of wellness into their lifestyles. Holistic therapy provides a way for those being treated to heal in all areas of their lives, in mind, body and spirit. In contrast, "traditional" therapies often only focus on the injured body part rather than the "whole" you.
No matter the type of therapy you are receiving or looking to receive, there is almost always a holistic means of treatment available. Holistic therapy has the ability to heal you in mind, body and spirit.

Craniosacral Benefits for ChildrenCraniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle touch manual therapy that works to soothe the central nervous system by releasing restrictions using the bones of the skull and spine. While most people are aware of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems of the body, many are not aware of the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system consists of the brain, spinal cord, cerebrospinal fluid (cushions the brain and spine), dura membrane (contains these structures) and the bones of the skull and spine. Much like the respiratory and cardiovascular system, the craniosacral system has its own rhythm which is palpated and measured by the practitioner. The rhythm is much more subtle and difficult to detect which is why it is not always considered in Western medicine. Practitioners use this rhythm which can be felt over the entire body to locate areas where it is less prominent, which are sites of restriction.
When a baby is born, the skull is made up of many separate bones that are not yet fused. Often times, through the birthing process, infections, or stress, these bones and the dural membrane can form restrictions causing abnormal function of the brain and nerves. Many syndromes and illnesses of childhood result from these restrictions, and when released can result in decreased or completely resolved symptoms. Colic, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, motor and sensory dysfunction, seizures, asthma, sleep disorders, and spasticity are just a few syndromes which can be helped with CST.
Children often respond much more quickly to CST as their nervous system and bodies are more pliable and less restricted than a normal adult’s body after years of stress and injury. The light touch of CST is extremely soothing and can calm the most anxious and active child or adult. The gentle touch helps build a trusting bond between practitioner and child which helps to create a positive and healthy environment for healing. When appropriate, parents can be taught certain aspects of CST and infant massage to further the healing process and essential bonding between parent and child.
CST has been around for thousands of years and brought more prominently to Western medicine by Dr. John Upledger. It is a remarkable therapy that can help not only children, but also adults suffering from back and neck pain, anxiety, depression, and general life stress. When you see how much it benefits your child, you might just want to try it yourself!
