Reiki is a form of energy healing developed by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) after years of studying the practices of Tendai Buddhism, Shintoism, and Martial Arts and Shugendo. Reiki enables the body's energy to flow freely and greatly assists the healing process, clearing blockages and releasing toxins that are stored in the body. It imparts a sense of clarity and calm. It is not directed by the practitioner and the energy goes where it is needed. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner places their hands above, or on the client's head, shoulders, stomach, knees and feet. Other hand positions can be used for specific conditions. Each position is held for 2 to 5 minutes and a treatment can last from 30 to 90 minutes.
